Iceland Trip

Iceland Summer Itineraries

From June to August, Iceland has almost 24 hours of daylight, every road is usually open — including highland F-roads to places like Landmannalaugar — and puffins nest on the cliffs. It is also peak season, so accommodation and tours book up early.

These summer plans come from real trips and were picked by our editors for routes that make the most of long days. Open one, then duplicate it and make it yours.

Frequently asked questions

What is the weather like in Iceland in summer?

Expect around 10–15°C (50–59°F) in most places, with occasional warmer days in the north and east. Rain and wind are possible any day, so pack layers and a waterproof jacket even in July.

When can you see puffins in Iceland?

Puffins are in Iceland from roughly May to mid-August. Good places to see them include Dyrhólaey and Reynisfjara on the South Coast, Borgarfjörður Eystri in the east, Látrabjarg in the Westfjords and boat tours from Reykjavík or Húsavík.

How far ahead should I book an Iceland summer trip?

Book the rental car and accommodation in small towns such as Vík, Höfn and the Mývatn area three to six months ahead for July and August. Popular tours — glacier hikes, boat tours at Jökulsárlón — fill up weeks ahead.
