Iceland Trip

8 to 10 Day Iceland Itineraries

With eight to ten days, you choose between depth and distance. Some travelers spend it on the south and west — South Coast, Glacier Lagoon, Snæfellsnes and the Golden Circle — with slow mornings. Others drive the full Ring Road through the Eastfjords, Mývatn and Akureyri.

Our editors picked these itineraries from real trips for good routing and realistic driving days. Open any plan for the full day-by-day schedule, then duplicate it and tailor it to your own dates and pace.

Frequently asked questions

Is 10 days enough for the Ring Road?

Ten days is the sweet spot for a summer Ring Road trip. It allows 2–4 hours of driving most days, with time for Jökulsárlón, the Eastfjords, Mývatn, Akureyri and a whale-watching tour in the north. In winter, add buffer days for weather and road closures.

What should I add to a 9 or 10 day Iceland trip beyond the South Coast?

The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is the easiest addition — about two hours from Reykjavík with Kirkjufell, lava fields and fishing villages. With more time, the north (Mývatn, Akureyri, Húsavík) is the other big draw.

Do I need a 4x4 for a 10 day Iceland trip?

Not for the Ring Road and main sights in summer — they are paved and fine in a 2WD. You need a 4x4 for F-roads into the highlands (legally required), and one is strongly recommended in winter.
