Questions about the tools
Are the Iceland planning tools free?
Yes, all of them: the planner, the checker, the budget calculator, the live road, weather, F-road and aurora pages, the family checker and the itinerary collections. The only paid product is Iceland Trip+, an optional per-trip service with a real Iceland expert on call.
Which tool should I start with?
With dates and no plan, the itinerary planner. With a plan you made or got from a chatbot, the itinerary checker. With a budget question, the calculator. On the road, the live pages: road conditions in winter, F-roads in summer, the weather every day and the northern lights every clear night.
Where do the live figures come from?
The road and F-road pages read the Icelandic Road Administration feed every ten minutes; the weather page reads Open-Meteo, as the trip pages do; the northern lights page reads NOAA space weather and the cloud forecast at nine sites; daylight and darkness are computed from solar geometry. Each page says how and when.
Can I use the tools without an account?
The checker, the calculator, the live pages, the collections and the family checker need no account. Building and saving an itinerary with the planner uses a free account with a one-time email code, so the plan can be edited, shared and duplicated later.
