Landmannalaugar, Glacier Ice and the Lava Show
Waterfalls on arrival, a Highlands hike at Landmannalaugar, then a glacier walk and the Lava Show, all in three July days.

Traveling with friends makes Iceland better value and more fun. Splitting a car and a cabin cuts costs sharply, and the big adventure tours — ice caves, glacier hikes, snowmobiling, super-jeeps, lava caving — are the kind of thing you want to do as a group.
These itineraries were planned by real groups and picked by our editors for good pacing and memorable activities. Find one that fits your crew, then duplicate it and make it yours.

A clockwise September loop with a glacier hike, a beach ride, whale watching, a lava cave and two days in Reykjavik.
Glacier hiking and ice caving on Vatnajökull or Mýrdalsjökull, snowmobiling, a whale-watching or RIB boat tour, the Lava Show in Vík or Reykjavík, and evenings in geothermal pools. Many tours are cheaper per person for groups.
For four or more adults with luggage, rent a large SUV or a minivan. If you plan any F-roads or are visiting in winter, make it a 4x4. Gravel and sand-and-ash insurance are worth considering on the South Coast.
Iceland is expensive, but groups save a lot on shared costs: the rental car, fuel, apartments or cabins with kitchens, and private tours priced per vehicle. Cooking a few dinners from a Bónus or Krónan supermarket also helps.
