Ring Road, Tröllaskagi and Snæfellsnes by Car
A full September loop in a regular car, adding the Tröllaskagi coast and two days on Snæfellsnes before a glacier finale.

Two weeks lets you drive the whole Ring Road without rushing and still add a detour — the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, the Westfjords, the Diamond Circle in the north or, in summer, a highland day to Landmannalaugar.
These longer itineraries come from real trips and were reviewed by our editors for balanced days and sensible bases. Read the plan, then duplicate it and adjust the stops, dates and pace to suit you.
A full September loop in a regular car, adding the Tröllaskagi coast and two days on Snæfellsnes before a glacier finale.
A September 4x4 loop that adds Landmannalaugar, a Sólheimajökull glacier hike and a Glymur climb to the Ring Road classics.
A relaxed July Ring Road with two-night stays in Vík and Mývatn, a Superjeep day and a Snæfellsnes finale.
Skip the full Ring Road: hike Glymur, explore a lava tube, climb Eldfell on Heimaey and walk on a glacier.
A high-energy loop for friends that fits the Katla ice cave, the Eastfjords, Mývatn and two Snæfellsnes days into 11 days.
A July loop that starts in the west and north, then finishes with a glacier hike, an ice cave and the South Coast waterfalls.
A summer Ring Road with a glacier hike, two unhurried nights in Vík, an iceberg boat tour and drives that rarely top four hours.
A July loop by 2WD with whale watching, the Lava Show, two nights at Mývatn and a seal-spotting detour on the Vatnsnes peninsula.
A summer camper van loop with a horseback ride near Vík, canyon walks, three geothermal pools and a Snæfellsnes day.
No — two weeks is ideal for a relaxed Ring Road trip with side trips. It means fewer hotel changes, shorter driving days and room for weather days, which matter in Iceland in every season.
Snæfellsnes is easier: it is close to Reykjavík and paved. The Westfjords are wilder and quieter but need at least three or four extra days because of long, winding roads, and they are best from June to September.
Most well-paced two-week plans use six to nine bases, staying two nights in a few places such as Vík, the Mývatn area or Akureyri. In summer, book these early — small towns have limited rooms.
