Hraunfossar
A series of beautiful, gentle waterfalls flowing out of Hallmundarhraun, a lava field formed by an eruption from a volcano under the Langjökull glacier. The water seeps through the porous lava and cascades over a distance of about 900 meters into the Hvítá river.
Barnafoss
Just upstream from Hraunfossar, Barnafoss, or 'Children's Waterfall,' is a powerful, narrow cascade rushing through a rocky gorge. Its name comes from a local legend about two children who tragically fell into the falls.
